White Dew marks the point in autumn where the temperature drops significantly at night, causing moisture in the air to condense into white dew on grass and trees. This solar term represents the arrival of true autumn dryness and cold. The rising Yin energy begins to dominate the landscape, and the focus of health preservation shifts back to the Lungs and Large Intestine, which are highly vulnerable to the drying and cooling atmosphere.

The Lungs open to the nose and govern the skin and hair. As the air dries out, the nasal passages and throat can easily become parched, leading to dry coughs, sore throats, or dry skin. Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes that the “cold enters through the feet.” Wearing cropped pants or going barefoot can expose the ankles, where key points of the Spleen, Liver, and Kidney meridians reside, directly to the cold ground air. Additionally, continuing to eat raw, cold salads can weaken the Spleen Yang, making it harder for the body to generate protective Qi for the Lungs.

To protect yourself during White Dew, prioritize warmth and moisture. Practicing nasal hydration, such as steam inhalation or using a saline rinse, helps keep the respiratory passages moist and defended against pathogens. Consuming walnuts is highly recommended, as they nourish the Lung Qi and warm the Kidneys. Drinking ginseng oolong tea provides a perfect balance of warming Qi support and fluid-generating moisture, helping to keep the body warm and hydrated from the inside out.
