Beginning of Spring
Beginning of Spring marks the official transition from winter’s stillness to the active renewal of spring. In the traditional Chinese calendar, this is the start of the entire solar cycle. While the weather may remain cold, the energetic shift has already begun deep within the earth and the human body. The dormant Yang energy that was conserved during the winter months begins its upward and outward ascent.
This rise of Yang energy directly resonates with the Wood element and its corresponding organs, the Liver and Gallbladder. The Liver is responsible for the smooth flow of Qi, emotions, and blood throughout the body. When the seasons change, the Liver Qi can easily become congested if it is not allowed to expand naturally. This stagnation often manifests as irritability, muscle stiffness, or tension headaches.
To support this transition, alignment focuses on facilitating the outward movement of Qi. Dressing in loose layers protects the rising Yang from lingering cold drafts. Morning stretches and gentle movement help shake off winter stiffness, allowing the Liver Qi to flow freely. Incorporating warm, slightly pungent foods like fresh ginger stimulates this upward energy, while avoiding late nights ensures the Liver has adequate rest to regenerate.
