Yam & Millet Congee (山药小米粥).
Traditional Logic
"In the traditional view, the Spleen and Stomach are the root of everyday vitality. If this center is weak, even good food cannot fully become Qi. Yam and millet are gentle builders, like soft earth around a young plant, helping nourishment take root without strain."
The Goal & Why It Works
"Nourishing the Spleen and Stomach so the day begins from a steadier center."
A foundational bowl for the digestive center. Yam and millet strengthen the roots, harmonize the stomach, and offer a soft way back to steady daily energy.
The Ingredients
50g Golden Millet (黄小米)
Harvested sunlight in grain form. A neutral, gentle energy that settles the center and calms the spirit.
100g Iron-stick Yam (铁棍山药)
A root of profound grounding. Its silky essence coats and nourishes the delicate lining of the stomach.
5g Goji Berries (枸杞)
Bright drops of concentrated Qi. They bring a spark of warming light to the decoction.
Steps
Prepare the Roots
Peel the yam while wearing gloves if your skin is sensitive. Slice into 1cm coins and rinse the millet once, gently.
Simmer Gently
Bring 600ml filtered water to a boil. Add millet and yam, then reduce to the lowest heat and cover.
Finish With Goji
Simmer about 35 minutes, until the congee becomes soft and slightly thick. Turn off the heat, add goji berries, and let them steep for 5 minutes.
